Caipirinha

The first drink that comes to mind when someone thinks of Brazil is the Caipirinha. Made with Cachaca, a distilled sugar cane drink that is proprietary to Brazil, this drink is equal parts refreshing and delicious.

Equipment
Muddler
Shaker
Cutting Board
Pairing knife
Old-fashioned or lowball 12 oz glassware

Ingredients
2 oz cachaca
Two limes (One is for garnish)
One tbsp sugar
Ice

Servings: 1

Time: 5 minutes

Steps

  1. Cut off the edges of your lime so you can lay it flat on all sides

  2. Then cut it in half lengthwise

  3. Remove the white middle center of the lime

  4. Then cut your limes half in half again lengthwise so you have four pieces

  5. Add limes to the shaker with the sugar

  6. Muddle for about a minute pressing on skins and release juice and oils from the skins. You should have a slushy at this point

  7. Add 2 oz of cachaca and about a half cup of ice

  8. Cut your second lime into round slices 

  9. Pour your drink and all the ice from the muddler into low ball glass

  10. Cut a sliver in half of a lime wheel and garnish your glass

Serving Suggestion
Pair with salty meats and good company.
