Food Nostalgia Moment
On my last trip to Rio, I sat by the pool at @clubecaicaras with my long-time friend @clara_pelo_mundo. After lunch, she offered ice cream to her kids. I was mostly tuned out, but as our lovely server listed flavors, my ears perked up. He listed chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and FLOCOS. I was immediately flooded with memories of an entire ice cream flavor I had forgotten about.
I had not thought about Flocos, the word, the flavor, or the concept in over a decade. Flocos is an everyday flavor of vanilla ice cream with micro pieces of shaved chocolate. It's maybe the Brazilian equivalent of cookies & cream in its commonality and favoritism by kids?
My inner child was happy to join the kids for this ice cream course, and my adult heart was full.
